2022 Summer Camps

It is with great excitement and anticipation that we reveal our 2022 summer camps! We believe in the power of theater to build self-confidence, creative thinking, empathy and caring. Our camps are designed for all experience and abilities. 19 of our 20 camps sold out last year, so enroll early and guarantee your spot in the most engaging and innovative musical experiences in Kansas City!

Summer Camps are $190 per camp

2 week camps are $380

BROADWAY BOUND AUDITION CAMP

June 6 – 17: 9am – Noon (Grades 6-12)

Need to know the ins and outs of what makes for a dynamite musical theater audition? Maybe you’ve never auditioned at all, and just don’t know where to start? No matter, this 2-week intensive walks through the ins and outs of the audition process – from selecting material, prepping for dance calls, gaining confidence and more! We’ll choose and coach songs and monologues, build an audition book, work on cold readings, and create a professional resume. The camp will conclude with a live audition for professional directors, giving you a chance to use everything you’ve learned.

UNDER THE SEA

June 6 – 10: 9am – Noon (Grades K – 5)

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Join us as we take a deep dive into some water-filled musical theater fun! We’ll sing and swim our way through music from The Little Mermaid, SpongeBob Squarepants, and more, as we discuss the themes of finding our place in a big world and learning to love ourselves. The course ends with a swim-tastic final performance and also includes a day trip to visit SEA LIFE AQUARIUM!!

CAMP SING

June 6 – 10: 12:30 – 3:30pm (Grades 6 – 12)

For the older kids who are all about increasing their skills as a vocalist! Led by MTH Manager of Education, Dr. Robert McNichols Jr., campers will learn successful ensemble singing, part singing, and participate in vocal masterclasses. They’ll also engage in pedagogy activities to learn how the voice works, and over the course of the week receive 2 private voice lessons. The final day of camp includes a brief recital to share what you’ve learned.

CAMP HOGWARTS, (Grades K – 5)

June 13 – 17: 9 am – Noon
August 8 – 12: 9 am – Noon

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! Discover the wizarding world of Harry Potter, Newt Scamander and more on our search for spells, fantastical creatures and magical mischief! We’ll make our own wands, get sorted (!!!), create our own fantastic beasts and learn music from magical shows in musical theater! We’ll demonstrate our magical music, dance and create spells with a final performance for friends and family under the stage lights.

CAMP HAMILTON, Jr. (Grades K – 5)

June 13 – 17: 12:30 – 3:30 pm
June 27 – July 1: 12:30 – 3:30 pm
August 1 – 5: 9 am – Noon

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND “Rise up!” Each day of this course will bring projects and music inspired by Hamilton! Students will learn about the history and creation of this American musical phenomenon while singing and dancing their way through its incredible score. The course will conclude with the ultimate final performance that you can share with all your family and friends!

GET WICKED (Grades 6 – 12)

June 20 – 24: 12:30 – 3:30pm

Friends, Fun, and Face paint will be some of the highlighted themes of this camp. All while exploring the music and story in the hit musical Wicked. Campers will learn what makes the Wicked Witch green, create wicked crafts of their own, and explore the musical’s themes of community and citizenship. Family and friends will also have the opportunity to get wicked along with the campers at the final performance on the last day of camp.

June 27 – July 1: 9am – Noon

VIVO y ENCANTO CAMPAMENTO (Grades K – 5)

July 4 – 8: 9am – Noon

Use your imagination, music and dance to travel the world and enjoy the cultures of Spain, Mexico, Columbia and Cuba. Created in partnership with Ensemble Iberica, this camp will use songs from the popular animated films Cocoa, Vivo and Encanto to explore the traditions of Hispanic cultures, and learn the importance of family and friendship. Campers will also play acting games, make traditional crafts, and join in performing traditions with a concert for friends and family on the final day of camp.

THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (Grades 6 -12)

July 4 – 8: 12:30 – 3:30pm

Come and be a part of the Greatest Show on Earth! Students will participate in creative drama, music, crafts and movement inspired by the hit movie musical The Greatest Showman , and may try their hands at some circus tricks taboot! The camp week will conclude with an ultimate Greatest Show Experience under the stage lights.

HIP HOPPIN MARY POPPINS (Grades K – 5)

July 11 – 15: 9am – Noon

This camp is sure to be supercalifragilistic…oh, you get the idea! We will experiment with exploring how the classic musical Mary Poppins and it’s hit sequel can be told through the format of Hip-Hop music. Adventure awaits as we sing and dance to music from Mary Poppins and Mary Poppins Returns and create some astounding arts and craft projects. It all ends with a final performance you can share with your family, friends and favorite chimney sweep!

DEAR EVAN HANSEN CAMP (grades 6 – 12)

July 11 – 15: 12:30 – 3:30pm

Only good vibes in this session full of teenage-driven musicals from Be More Chill, Dear Evan Hanson, Mean Girls, The Prom, Wicked and more! Students will sing and stage some of the most popular songs for teens from these Broadway’s hit musicals. The camp will conclude with a final performance that you can share with all your family and friends!

BRING IN DA FUNK, BRING IN DA DRUMS

July 25 – 29: 9am – Noon (Grades 6 – 12)

For the young musical theater lover who just wants to rock! In this new camp participants will learn to rock out on non-traditional instruments and use them to explore the power of storytelling. Music for this camp will include songs from broadway hits such as Stomp, Blue Man Group, and Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk! Camp will end the week with a final performance so that friends and family can also Feel da’ Funk!

DISNEY ROYALTY (Grades K – 5)

August 1 – 5: 12:30 – 3:30pm

Princes, Princesses, Kings and Queens all unite in this camp which explores your favorite Disney royalty! Our time together will be filled with crafts, meaningful lessons, a royal photo shoot and of course the music that makes it all so amazing! We will bring the magic to life with a final performance that you can share with your family and friends!

2022 Summer Camp Registration

* Summer Camps are $190/participant
* Summer Camps have a minimum of 2 instructors per camp
* 2022 Summer Camps have a max capacity of 12 students/camp.
* A limited number of scholarships are available for those in need. Please find the scholarship application HERE.

Education Payment Policy & Refunds

  • Payment is due in full at the time of enrollment in order for the camper to be ensured a spot in the camp of choice. If waitlisted, no payment or deposit is due until a spot becomes available.
  • Prior to April 1, 2022 all tuition is fully refundable.
  • For cancellations between April 1, 2022 and May 1, 2022, we will refund 90% of the camp fees.
  • For cancellations between May 1 – May 31, we will refund 50% of the camp fees.
  • Beginning June 1, there are no refunds for camp fees, but camps may be transferred to another individual and must be used for a 2022 camp.

The seasonal nature of our program precludes any refund, camp credit, or reduction for late or non-arrival, early withdrawal or student cancellation within two weeks of the program for any reason. Students sent home in violation of our rules, for medical reasons, or at the discretion of the student, family, or MTH will receive no refund.

MTH COVID Policy & Action Plan

To help slow the spread of COVID-19 and safeguard our staff and visitors, Musical Theater Heritage (MTH) has created an action plan based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), City of Kansas City Health Department, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidance, highlighting the responsibilities of the Board of Directors, MTH Staff and Volunteers, and outlines steps being taken to address the COVID-19 threat. MTH is the proud recipient of Missouri’s Art Safe re-opening certification. A summary MTH’s action plan can be found HERE.
