The Production Manager is responsible for the management of all production staff and production elements of MTH activities. The Production Manager also works to support the maintenance and improvement of the facility with specific attention to the theater spaces and equipment therein.
JOB DUTIES (including, but not limited to):
Supervise production budgets. The Production Manager will keep MTH apprised of the status of the Production budget on a regular basis; overall expenses may not go over budget without approval. Process, track and reconcile all production department accounts payable and overhire employee payroll.
Develop and administer production calendars and design deadlines for each production. Determine load-in and tech schedules for the stage. Manage resource calendars for all facility spaces. Schedule all design and production meetings.
3. DESIGN PROCESS AND ANALYSIS
Guide all director/design teams through the design process to guarantee the timely completion of all designs. With the input of appropriate technical staff, analyze all designs submitted to determine feasibility of execution within the allotted time, money and personnel available.
4. MANAGING PRODUCTION PERSONNEL
Hire, contract and supervise all production staff and contractors including, but not limited to: electricians, carpenters, stage managers, production assistants, wardrobe personnel, running crew and any additional personnel required for specific production needs.
5. PRODUCTION LIAISON
Facilitate clear communications throughout the production process, and act as a liaison between directors, designers, stage managers, and MTH production and administrative staff. Included but not limited to: Coordinate and conduct all design and production meetings. Attend first rehearsal, designer run, all technical rehearsals and previews. Ensure company compliance with all union rules.
6. DEPARTMENT SUPPORT
As necessary, support productions by assisting with stage work, purchasing, sourcing and researching materials and techniques. Maintain a safe work environment at all times. Address safety hazards with appropriate personnel promptly.
7. HUMAN RESOURCES
Production Manager is responsible for HR documentation for all production personnel and some artistic, including but not limited to: prepare contracts, collect tax forms, process and sign time-sheets and handle the initial paperwork for Workers’ Compensation for all production department-related claims.
8. INVENTORY AND PURCHASING
Oversee inventory and maintenance of all shop, lighting, costume and sound equipment. Oversee all routine facility supply stocking as well as general facility hardware such as lamps and stage supplies such as tape.
9. FACILITY MANAGEMENT
The Production Manager is also responsible for general upkeep of the facility through either the execution of small repairs or identifying the need for outside labor and securing such assistance. Production Manager will work with MTH Rentals coordinator to ensure all venues at MTH are in good working order at all times.
10. SAFETY OFFICER
The Production Manager is the MTH Safety Officer responsible for overseeing the maintenance of a safe work place in compliance with OSHA, ADA and Building Fire Codes. The safety officer is responsible for ensuring that all employees are familiar with Emergency Procedures.
Candidate will have a minimum of three years experience as a Production Manager or in a related field within the industry. This includes: broad understanding in all aspects of technical theatre. Negotiating and acting as mediator in artistic and technical discussions. Experience creating, monitoring and adhering to budgets. Experience overseeing production calendars and schedules. Ability to read a script and assess requirements in regards to staffing, budgeting and design. Able to lift 40lb, climb ladders, and perform manual labor on an occasional, as-needed basis. In addition the candidate will possess excellent computer skills and detailed knowledge of spreadsheets; knowledge of common industry-specific software such as CAD programs, VectorWorks, Lightwright, Qlab or Isadora, and experience reading ground-plans, light plots and other theatrical specifications a plus. Excellent communication skills, the ability to manage shifting and competing priorities, exercise good judgment and discretion, and maintain a positive attitude in stressful environments are all essential attributes. Night and weekend hours are required.
